Rugosa Friuliana

Common in northeastern Italy, and nearly the only variety seen in the Venetian shops and markets. The name means “wrinkled of Friuli,” but the light yellow fruit is beyond wrinkled, being fantastically warted even when very young. Rich and full flavored, as Italian varieties usually are.
